Job Title: Assistant Head Teacher
Location: Craig y Parc School
Hours: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours/week (Term Time Only)
Salary: £45,000 – £49,000 per annum

About the Role
Craig y Parc School is seeking a dynamic and compassionate Assistant Head Teacher to join our leadership team. This pivotal role supports the Head Teacher in the strategic and operational management of the school, with a strong focus on educational excellence and inclusive practice. You’ll help shape a nurturing environment that promotes independence and personal growth for all students, including those with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD).
This is a hands-on leadership position with a teaching commitment of up to 40% of the timetable, ensuring you remain closely connected to the needs of pupils and the team you lead.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
- Assist in the day-to-day running of the school
- Lead staff development and foster a culture of continuous improvement
- Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team to implement strategic vision
- Develop and monitor school policies to ensure compliance and best practice
- Drive initiatives that enhance education and care quality
Curriculum & Learning
- Support curriculum development tailored to diverse learning needs
- Monitor teaching standards and learning outcomes
- Guide staff in delivering effective Individualised Education Plans (IEPs)
- Work with external professionals to ensure holistic student support
Student Well-being & Safeguarding
- Champion student welfare and safeguarding
- Advocate creatively for pupils’ needs
- Model positive behaviour support and community values
Staff Development & Support
- Lead recruitment, induction, and ongoing staff development
- Mentor staff in best practices for supporting additional learning needs
- Implement effective performance management systems
Communication & Partnership
- Build strong relationships with parents and carers
- Liaise with external agencies and stakeholders
- Share best practices across the Salutem portfolio
- Represent the school at meetings and events
School Improvement & Monitoring
- Co-develop and review the School Improvement Plan
- Lead self-evaluation and continuous improvement initiatives
- Use data to track progress and plan targeted interventions
