Job Responsibilities
Support Staff with Activities:
· Collaborate with support workers to facilitate individual participation in activities.
· Provide guidance and resources to staff, ensuring they are equipped to support individuals effectively.
Plan and Implement Person-Centered Activity Programs:
· Develop and organize activities that are tailored to the interests and abilities of each individual.
· Continuously assess and adapt programs to meet changing needs and preferences.
· Ensure all activities are inclusive and accessible to everyone.
Understand Individual Needs:
· Gain a deep understanding of everyone’s needs, including their skill development, health, well-being, and personal care requirements.
· Use this understanding to create meaningful and engaging activities that promote personal growth and enjoyment.
Maintain Accurate Documentation:
· Keep all records and documentation related to activities up to date and accurate.
· Ensure compliance with all organizational policies and procedures regarding documentation.
Contribute to High-Quality Service Provision:
· Participate in an induction program and ongoing training opportunities.
· Engage in regular supervision and contribute to team meetings.
· Uphold the values of respect and inclusivity towards individuals, their families, colleagues, and the public.
· Consider the diverse backgrounds and needs of individuals, including age, gender, ethnicity, religion, abilities, and personal preferences.
· Adhere to policies and maintain a safe, healthy, and supportive environment for everyone.

Essential Skills
Communication Skills
1. Ability to adapt communication to different needs (e.g. simple language, visual aids, non-verbal cues)
· Understanding of alternative communication methods such as Makaton or Picture Exchange Communication System
· Patience when supporting individuals who may take longer to express themselves
2. Person-Centred Approach
· Tailoring activities to each resident’s abilities, interests, and support needs
· Promoting independence and choice
· Respecting dignity and individuality
3. Understanding of Learning & Physical Disabilities
· Awareness of conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder or Cerebral Palsy
· Adapting activities to suit cognitive and physical abilities
· Recognising sensory needs and triggers
4. Creativity & Adaptability
· Modifying activities so everyone can participate
· Using sensory activities, music, movement, or tactile materials
· Thinking creatively to overcome physical barriers
5. Safeguarding Knowledge
· Protecting vulnerable individuals from harm
· Understanding safeguarding policies and reporting concerns
6. Teamwork
· Working alongside carers, therapists, and support staff
· Sharing observations about residents’ wellbeing and engagement
7. Health & Safety Awareness
· Safe moving and handling practices
· Risk assessing activities for people with mobility or health needs
Desirable Skills
1. Experience in Disability Support
· Previous work with individuals with learning or physical disabilities
· Experience supporting communication or behavioural needs
2. Relevant Qualifications
· NVQ / Diploma in Health & Social Care
· Training in disability support, behaviour management, or activity coordination
3. Knowledge of Inclusive Activities
· Designing activities that are accessible for all abilities
· Understanding sensory play and therapeutic activities
4. IT & Record-Keeping Skills
· Recording participation and progress
· Using care planning systems
5. Leadership & Motivation
· Encouraging participation in a supportive way
· Building confidence and self-esteem in residents
