Pathways are highly personalised and combine outcomes for education, health and care. Pre-entry assessments use existing information from the current school or college and any health and care professionals, along with the most recent Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), alongside an interactive assessment with the applicant and their parent/carer.
Our physiotherapists and assistant colleagues then devise an appropriate plan of therapeutic inventions for direct treatment, and or through delegated responsibility to ensure those with an identified need are supported through a challenging and ambitious intensive pathway to fulfil their potential. This might include strategies for pain management and improved or maintained flexibility, right through to interventions that enable an essential wheelchair user to stand and turn as independently as possible. Students of Beaumont College can and do experience transformative experiences through the expertise, vision and determination they develop with their physiotherapist through a clear and intensive plan of interactions over several years. Students benefit from colleagues with an empathy and understanding of their complex health conditions and learning disabilities, who are ambitious within their NMSK and/or neuro-physio discipline.
As young adults, students are likely to be transitioning from child to adult services in the NHS, and may experience changes in the threshold required to access support. As a result, support in that transition, alongside planning for life beyond college including accessing Personal Independence Payments (PIPs) to continue to access essential therapy for a full, busy and active life beyond the college are all part of what we do to support out students as they prepare to graduate.
