About The Company

The Sharon Collins Resource Centre family is recruiting!

We offer day opportunities and community support as well as wrap around support, occasionally, to support people into the service from home. We support individuals with a mix of disabilities - neurodevelopmental conditions such as epilepsy, autism, dyspraxia and cerebral palsy. We also support people with dementia and acquired brain injuries.

The individuals we support include Amy who is a very dynamic young woman who attends the day centre every day! She is a mover and shaker and is a member of the SCRC dance and theatre group, ‘The magic Chocolate Show’! Along side of this Amy loves listening to stories, making a mess with arts and crafts, using building blocks to help develop her cognitive skills. Oh, and she also love the odd glass of Pimm’s!

Our staff say: ‘Working at Sharon Collins was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made; it truly changed my life for the better.’ The staff have said the team really are the best! Everyday is exciting and fulfilling. It’s a compassionate environment and it has a real encoring atmosphere.
One of the best things about working at the SCRC is the team in all its wonderful diversity - we love difference!

If you're looking for a job to love, please get in touch!

At Salutem Care and Education, we recognise the value and wisdom that come from all stages of life. Join our team to be a part of a community that truly appreciates the richness of age diversity.

About The Role

In this role you will be supporting adults with a range of disabilities and support needs.

You are appointed to work at the Sharon Collins Resource Centre and local community buildings (for example Jubilee library, swimming etc). In line with our commitment to support people in the most flexible and person centred way we can, you may be asked to work in different services or settings in the future.

Purpose

The main purpose of your job is to lead activity sessions based within the service and in the community. Along side the other activity coordinators you will create a weekly or bi-weekly planner with a range of activities that take every individual into consideration. The smooth running of this planner and regular reviews and updates will also be a responsibility of yours.

Key Responsibilities

Ensure staff feel equipped to support individuals in the session. This means:
  • Linking with Support Workers as they support people to participate in their chosen activity.
  • Meeting with staff to discuss what they think is working and what is not working, and support during changes to the planner.

Enable individuals to interact and experience a range of activities, both now and planning for the future. This means:
  • Managing, creating and monitoring appropriate sessions as well as taking responsibility for relevant equipment and resources.
  • Contributing to the planning, development and implementation of person centred activity programmes.
  • Contributing to the assessment, recording and evidencing of the activity programmes.
  • Attending meetings as required.
  • Carrying out any other relevant duties as reasonably requested by your line manager or Senior Manager.

Keep the needs of the individuals you are supporting at the centre of your attention at all times.
  • Listening and responding to people, using communication they understand.
  • Supporting people to take part in enjoyable, satisfying and purposeful activities.
  • Supporting people to make sense of their environments and to access their communities.
  • Supporting people to learn new skills.
  • Supporting people with their health and well-being.
  • Supporting people with their personal care if they need this.

4. Help SCRC to provide a high quality service by:

  • Keeping all records of your work up to date and accurate.
  • Completing SCRC’s induction programme and attending courses arranged by your manager. Taking part in your own supervision. Attending and contributing to meetings.
  • Behaving respectfully all the time to the people you support, their families/friends, your colleagues and members of the public.
  • Taking into account people’s age, gender, ethnic origin, religious/cultural background, abilities/disabilities, and sexual/personal needs.
  • Keeping up to date with SCRCs policies and practices and following these at all times.
  • Keeping a safe, healthy and supportive environment for the people you support, yourself, your colleagues, and anyone else coming into contact with SCRC.
  • You may also be expected to carry out other duties that are in line with the nature and grade of the role
